PT Santomo Green Power Management (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Shuntaro Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SGPM”) has been supplying Smoot-branded electric motorcycles by PT Smoot Motor Indonesia (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Kevin Phang; hereinafter “Smoot”) and operating Battery Swapping Stations (hereinafter “BSS”) for these electric motorcycles in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Republic of Indonesia since November 2022.
As a joint applicant, SGPM applied for the “City-to-City Collaboration Program for Zero Carbon Society in 2024” as the “Support Project for Formation of Zero Carbon city centered on Transportation and Energy Sectors through City-to-City Collaboration between Yokohama City and Makassar City (Proposer: Nippon Koei Co., Ltd.)” (hereinafter “this project”), and this project was adopted. SGPM will be in charge of the “Feasibility Study for Installation and Connection of Solar Power System (hereinafter “SOLAR”) to BSS for electric motorcycles” of this project.
Currently, electricity purchased from the Indonesia state-owned electric utility company (hereinafter “PLN”) is supplied to BSS, but more than 60% of PLN’s power source composition is derived from coal-fired power generation, and it is argued that the electric shift of motorcycles with internal combustion engine will have only a limited effect in reducing CO2 emissions. Therefore, SGPM aims to further reduce CO2 emissions by installing SOLAR in BSS, and conducts our own small-scale charging demonstration of BSS using SOLAR (off-grid type) at our showroom in the city. In this project, we will conduct a site survey of candidate locations for installation of roof-mounted SOLAR (e.g. convenience stores, university campuses, etc.), study JCM methodologies to develop this project into a JCM project, calculate CO2 emission reductions, and compare and contrast feasibility schemes.
In addition, SGPM will consider the cooperation with companies in Yokohama city to study the feasibility of introducing lightweight and thin next-generation solar panels and perovskite solar panels, in order to install SOLAR on facilities with low roof load bearing capacity, and the methods for monitoring renewable energy usage.
SGPM aims for “power generation from renewable energy, battery swapping service, and microfinance through rental” and to build a series of two-wheeled EV ecosystems, and will contribute to the realization of Zero Carbon Society in Indonesia.
