Santomo Group presented on the potential of biofuels in Indonesia and the development status of non-food oil-based marine fuel production technology at Low Carbon Fuel Summit 2024

Santomo Resources Corporation (Head office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”) participated in the Low Carbon Fuel Summit 2024 held in Singapore from February 27 (Tuesday) to February 28 (Wednesday), 2024.

At the summit, there were presentations, information exchanges, and proposals regarding the supply of raw materials, the refining technologies for marine and aviation fuels, supply chain related to engines and fuel supply using biofuels, projections on the future transition of liquid fuels, carbon credits related to liquid fuels, and so on, from around the world, including Southeast Asian countries with potential raw materials for liquid biofuels such as UCO (Used Cooking Oil) and POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent), as well as Europe with manufacturing technologies for SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).

Santomo’s Manager, Rumi Hoshino, presented on the potential of raw materials for biofuels in Indonesia and the development status of new fuel made from non-edible oils, specifically FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) derived from palm oil mill effluent (POME).

Santomo have been operating the businesses about the export of solid biomass fuel, palm kernel shells (PKS), to Japan, its supply domestically, and pellet production using unused agricultural residues as raw materials, and at the same time, Santomo maintain a procurement network for liquid residues, mainly the liquid waste from palm oil mills.

Moving forward, to promote the spread of liquid biofuels, Santomo plan to focus on sourcing non-edible oil raw materials such as agricultural residues from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, and residues from other food factories. Santomo will also focus on the development and scaling up of technologies for producing marine fuels like FAME.
