Santomo announced MOU signed with PT ATP Bio Indonesia for the supply of PKS and other fuels for bio-cokes production, at the MOU ceremony of the 2nd AZEC ministerial meeting.

PT Santomo Resources Indonesia (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SRI”) and PT Santomo Biomass Indonesia (Head Office: Jakarta; President Director: Rumi Hoshino; hereinafter “SBI”), the Indonesian subsidiaries of Santomo Resources Corporation (Head office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”), have entered into a MOU (memorandum of understanding) with PT ATP Bio Indonesia (Head Office: Jakarta; President Director: Mikio Kuwahara; hereinafter “ATP”), which is about SRI supplying gas and other fuel, and SBI providing a stable supply of PKS necessary for the production of bio coke, in order for ATP to commercialize the world’s first technology to replace coal-based coke used by in the melting process of cast iron parts with PKS (palm kernel shell) in Indonesia.

ATP is a joint venture company in which Aisin Takaoka Corporation (Head office: Aichi, Japan; President: Makoto Okuda) holds a 51% stake and PT.Triputra Agro Persada Tbk (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Tjandra Karya Hermanto) holds a 49% stake.

The MOU ceremony was held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Jakarta at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC), a framework for collaboration toward decarbonization in Southeast Asia and other regions led by Japan.

Makoto Okuda, President of Aisin Takaoka Co., Ltd., Tjandra Karya Hermanto, President Director of PT. Triputra Agro Persada Tbk, Tomoichi Yamaguchi, President Director of SRI, and Rumi Hoshino, President Director of SBI, attended the ceremony.

Coal-derived coke emits CO2 not only during use, but also during the mining and production processes. The production of coal-derived coke from plant-derived PKS, which is a waste product, can reduce CO2 emissions and make effective use of waste, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

Our group plans to start supplying PKS and other materials to ATP in 2025.
