PT Santomo Biomass Indonesia (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Rumi Hoshino; hereinafter “SBI”) held an opening ceremony for its wood pellet factory in Gresik, East Java, on September 24, 2025. This ceremony marks a significant milestone in promoting the adoption of renewable energy and expanding Indonesia’s role in the global biomass supply chain.
In addition, this project was registered to AZEC (Asia Zero Emission Community) promotion which is led by METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).
Attendees included representatives from the Surabaya Consulate, village officials, ERIA, clients, business partners, and members of our group. Following the opening ceremony, a factory tour was conducted.
With a maximum monthly production capacity of 1,000 tons, this plant will manufacture high-quality wood pellets as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source to fossil fuels. We aim to support carbon emission reductions for both domestic industries and international markets through this pellet production.
This wood pellet factory in East Java marks our first step in the region. However, this project holds significance beyond mere business. SBI representative Rumi Hoshino stated, “We view this as a starting point not only for decarbonizing East Java, but also for contributing to Indonesia’s overall energy transition and, ultimately, to global efforts to build a sustainable future.”
Marking this milestone, SBI will further strengthen its commitment to supporting Indonesia’s renewable energy goals, building sustainable biomass supply chains, and providing economic opportunities for local communities.
Furthermore, building on this foundation, SBI aims to accelerate the global transition to a low-carbon society through expanding production capacity and strengthening international partnerships.
