Expansion of electric motorcycle business functions and areas

Launch of Rental Business / Expansion into Lombok Island

PT Santomo Green Power Management (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Shuntaro Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SGPM”), a subsidiary of Santomo Resources Corporation (Head office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”), has been supplying “Smoot” brand electric motorcycles manufactured by PT Smoot Motor Indonesia (Head office: Jakarta, President Director: Kevin Phang) and establishing and operating battery swapping stations (hereinafter “BSS”) for these electric motorcycles in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, since November 2022.

SGPM has expanded its business scope from the wholesale and sales of electric motorcycles to the rental of electric motorcycles, which started in October 2023. Currently, SGPM is conducting a PoC (Proof of Concept) for this rental business, primarily targeting Gojek and Grab drivers. As of the end of November, SGPM has rented vehicles to 113 online drivers in Makassar City. The rental price is set at 35,000 IDR per day, promoting the widespread use of electric motorcycles without imposing a financial burden on drivers. SGPM aims to rent a total of 3,000 vehicles to online drivers in the future and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in Eastern Indonesia.

Additionally, SGPM signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) about the “Promotion of Electric Motorcycles and Charging Infrastructure for These Vehicles” with the state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Head office: Jakarta, President Director: Darmawan Prasodjo, hereinafter “PLN”) on December 12, 2023, in Mataram City, Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Through the provision of motorcycles to PLN-owned facilities and the establishment and operation of BSS, SGPM aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the transportation sector in Mataram City. In cooperation with local dealers, SGPM is also working on building a sales network and maintenance service system for electric motorcycles, addressing the challenge of users’ transition from internal combustion vehicles to electric vehicles and promoting the use of electric motorcycles.

In the eastern Indonesia region, where SGPM is working on this business, approximately 300 “Smoot” electric motorcycles are already in use, and SGPM will continue to expand its business in Makassar and Mataram cities and is now focusing on extending its operations to other major cities, including Manado.

SGPM will continue to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society by supplying environmentally friendly and cost-effective electric motorcycles and expanding the network of BSS.
