Agreement on exclusive collaboration with Swap Energy for electric motorcycle power supply business in the Eastern Indonesia region

~Toward the realization of a decarbonized society~

Santomo Resources Corporation (Head office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”) has signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) and reached an exclusive collaboration agreement in the Eastern Indonesia region with Swap Energy (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Irwan Tjahaja) in Indonesia through Santomo’s Indonesian subsidiary, PT Santomo Resources Indonesia (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SRI”), to launch an electric motorcycle power supply business.

Indonesia, the largest motorcycle market in Southeast Asia, has declared its aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, and as part of this initiative, the country has set an ambitious target of introducing 13 million electric motorcycles by 2030.

However, challenges such as high purchase prices and long charging times have hindered the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles.

Electric motorcycles manufactured by Smoot Motor Indonesia, an affliated company of Swap Energy, address these challenges by offering prices comparable to gasoline motorcycles and enabling battery swaps in just nine seconds, and they have enjoyed strong sales performance since their launch in Jakarta in 2021.

Santomo is now commencing the sales and maintenance of electric motorcycles in the Eastern Indonesia region, starting in Makassar. In addition, it will invest in Battery Swapping Stations (hereinafter “BSS”) and spare batteries to establish a power supply business for electric motorcycles.

Initially, Santomo will collaborate with the state-owned electricity company PLN to install and operate BSS at PLN’s South Sulawesi branch locations, providing power supply services for electric motorcycles.

Santomo is committed to accelerating customer development and expanding its power supply network, aiming to achieve the full electrification of gasoline motorcycles in the future.
