PT Santomo Green Power Management (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Shuntaro Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SGPM”), an Indonesian subsidiary of Santomo Resources Corporation (Head office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”), launched an electric motorcycle rental service for Gojek drivers in Makassar, located on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, starting in October 2023. This service leverages electric motorcycles developed by PT Smoot Motor Indonesia (Headquarters: Jakarta, President Director: Kevin Phang, hereinafter “Smoot”), a company with which SGPM has a strategic partnership.
Since 2022, SGPM has collaborated with PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (Headquarters: Jakarta, President Director: Sugito Walujo, hereinafter “Gojek”) to support Gojek’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, by conducting free trials of electric motorcycles for Gojek drivers in Makassar. By promoting the use of electric motorcycles, SGPM aims to enhance user value through reduced fuel costs compared to gasoline and to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, decarbonized society and vehicle electrification.
The primary objective of the newly launched rental business is to provide Gojek drivers with easy access to electric motorcycles by supplying vehicles tailored to their consumption patterns.
In October 2023, SGPM held an informational session in Makassar regarding the rental program for Gojek drivers, attracting numerous participants and applications.
SGPM also hosted electric motorcycle test rides at its Makassar showroom, allowing many drivers to experience the vehicles following the informational session.
The showroom offers 3S (Sales, Service, Spare Parts) functions, addressing after-sales service challenges—a key issue in promoting electric motorcycle adoption. This ensures users can enjoy peace of mind and long-term reliability with their electric motorcycles.
Currently, approximately 200 Smoot electric motorcycles are operating in Makassar, supported by 48 Battery Swapping Stations (hereinafter “BSS”) primarily located at Alfamart convenience stores.
Moving forward, SGPM will continue to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society by expanding the supply of environmentally friendly, cost-effective electric motorcycles and the network of BSS.
