Expanding Partnerships for Electric Motorbike Utilization in BaaS Operations
Santomo Resources Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”), through its Indonesian subsidiary PT Santomo Resources Indonesia (Head Office: Jakarta; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi), will conduct a trial program with PT Speda Untuk Indonesia (Head Office: Jakarta; President: Iki Sari Dewi; hereinafter “Grab”), a subsidiary of Singapore-based Grab Holdings, to promote the subscription-based use of electric motorbikes as part of efforts to build a decarbonized society.
From September to November 2022, Santomo will provide 20 Smoot-manufactured electric motorbikes free of charge to Grab drivers in Makassar. The trial aims to evaluate the performance of electric motorbikes and charging infrastructure, while also laying the groundwork for future subscription agreements.
Grab has already adopted subscription contracts for Smoot electric motorbikes in Jakarta and Bali. This trial expands the operational area to Makassar, supporting Grab’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.
Santomo and Grab will continue discussions to further expand electric motorbike usage, enhance service quality, and develop the necessary infrastructure, including battery swapping stations.
In Makassar, 56 electric motorbikes are already in operation, and 37 battery swap stations (owned by Santomo) have been installed. Santomo plans to expand charging infrastructure to 150 locations by the fiscal year ending March 2023.
