Contribution to Decarbonization through the Electrification of Gasoline Motorbikes
Santomo Resources Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi; hereinafter “Santomo”), through its Indonesian subsidiary PT Santomo Resources Indonesia (Head Office: Jakarta; President: Tomoichi Yamaguchi), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (Head Office: Jakarta; CEO: Kevin Aluwi; hereinafter “Gojek”) and held a launch ceremony for the introduction of electric motorbikes for Gojek drivers.
Under this trial program, Santomo will provide 20 electric motorbikes free of charge to Gojek drivers, aiming to promote awareness of electric mobility while jointly developing suitable locations for battery swapping stations. This marks the first time that Gojek has adopted electric motorbikes in the Eastern Indonesia region.
At the launch ceremony, in addition to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, a demonstration run of the 20 electric motorbikes was conducted. Prior to the event, a demonstration was also held at the residence of former Vice President of Indonesia, Mr. Jusuf Kalla, in Makassar, where Santomo explained initiatives toward realizing a smart city in Makassar through the use of electric motorbikes and battery technology.
On February 17 of this year, Santomo reached an exclusive collaboration agreement with Swap Energy to operate battery swapping services in Eastern Indonesia, and customer development is currently underway. The collaboration with Gojek drivers represents the first step in this initiative.
Santomo, in response to the growing demand for motorbike electrification as part of global decarbonization efforts, aims to leverage this newly established partnership with Gojek to further expand customer development and contribute to building a green, circular society starting from Makassar.
