PT Santomo Green Power Management (Head Office: Jakarta, President: Shuntaro Yamaguchi, hereinafter “SGPM”), the Indonesian operating company of Santomo Group’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) business, opened a new service base in Surabaya, Indonesia on April 28, 2025, providing electric motorcycle rental and repair services.
At this base, SGPM offers electric motorcycle rentals to online drivers working with platforms such as Gojek and Grab, as well as repair services for electric motorcycle users. In Indonesia’s ride-hailing industry, rising demand for both passenger and goods transport has led to the expansion of services by various platforms. Online drivers are a critical resource supporting these services, yet many face financial challenges such as insufficient funds to purchase electric motorcycles or difficulties in passing loan screenings. By using electric motorcycles, drivers can reduce fuel and maintenance costs, thereby increasing their disposable income.
Many drivers travel more than 100 km per day, with some reaching 200 km daily. To meet the needs of these high-usage drivers, SGPM is deploying battery-swapping electric motorcycles instead of conventional charging models. In Makassar, SGPM already operates approximately 65 battery-swapping stations, and a similar network will be established in Surabaya.
Through this initiative, SGPM and Santomo Group are expanding one-stop services for gig workers such as online drivers, further contributing to decarbonization in Indonesia.
