PT Santomo Green Power Management (Head office: Jakarta; President Director: Shuntaro Yamaguchi; hereinafter “SGPM”) has signed an MOU with PT Goto Gojek Tokopedia (Head office: Jakarta, President Director: Sugito Walujo, hereinafter “Gojek”), Indonesia’s leading ride-hailing platform, to conduct trials aimed at promoting the adoption of electric motorcycles in Surabaya, East Java.
Key Areas of Collaboration
- Free rental of electric motorcycles to Gojek drivers in Surabaya
- Installation and operation of battery-swapping charging stations at Gojek’s Surabaya office
- User surveys and data analysis regarding the use of electric motorcycles
- Discussions on commercialization
Through This MOU
Surabaya, located in East Java, is Indonesia’s second-largest city and hosts a significant presence of Japanese companies. The Consulate General of Japan in Surabaya, established in 1920, has a rich history, and the city is home to approximately 60 Japanese companies and a large Japanese expatriate community, second only to Jakarta in Indonesia.
Indonesia has declared its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, while Gojek aims for carbon neutrality by 2030. The adoption of electric motorcycles in Surabaya and East Java is seen as a vital step towards decarbonization, presenting a promising market opportunity.
SGPM will support the electrification of vehicles used by Gojek drivers and conduct this trial project in Surabaya, marking the second city for such an initiative after Makassar.
In this project, SGPM aims to further contribute to the promotion of EV adoption and decarbonization in Indonesia.
